Our Bathroom Remodeling Design Process

Our bathroom remodeling process begins with a free design consultation. During the initial in-home meeting, our design and construction experts take a look at the existing space and talk with you to better understand your individual needs and style. Then, depending on the scope of work, we will walk you through various solutions and options (e.g. new floor plan ideas, applicable products, practicality, etc.) that will ultimately be used to provide you with an estimate.

JM Design Build can handle any size project, but we’re not here to push things on you that simply don’t make sense. We provide ourselves on practical, timeless designs and the quality of our work. This is important to understand because that is how we determine the scope of work and therefore the costs associated with your bathroom remodeling project.

Once the project scope and estimate have been presented to you, you have the opportunity to (and are encouraged to) ask questions and to take as much time as you feel necessary to make your decision. In a perfect world, you would choose us, but we realize we’re not for everybody.

But, let’s say hypothetically you do choose us (great choice!). This is when the fun starts. At this point (again, depending on the nature of the bathroom remodel), you are now open to our entire network of hand-picked suppliers to shop around products and selections, entitled to multiple design revisions, and have the opportunity to have our designers assist you with each and every decision you need to make. Bathroom remodeling can be an overwhelming process–we’re here to simplify things.

Our Bathroom Remodeling Process

Once the major design decisions have been made and the product is on order, we will get to work on the actual construction. Typically our bathroom remodeling process consists of the following:

  • Demo
  • Framing
  • Rough Mechanicals (any electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC updates to service the new layout)
  • Bathtub/shower unit installation
  • Drywall hanging and finishing
  • Sub-floor Installation
  • Prime walls and ceilings
  • Flooring installation (tile, slate, vinyl, etc)
  • Custom tile tub/shower surrounds
  • Painting
  • Finish carpentry and trim work

Master Bathroom Remodel Strongsville, OH 44149

The master bath remodel in Strongsville featured here is just one of two full bathroom remodeling projects completed simultaneously by JM Design Build. The owner of this early 1990’s home sought out to alter their master bathroom to be more functional and to utilize the existing space more effectively. The former quadrant of the house consisted of a long, narrow 4-piece master bath, a small walk-in master closet, and a full guest bathroom; however, in addition to becoming outdated over the years, the existing floor-plan simply fell short of adequately harmonizing their lifestyle.

Project Specifications, Selections, and Solutions

JM Design Build’s interior designers met with the homeowner’s and, upon better understanding of their specific needs, were able to provide a fresh take on the space. In particular, the design team proposed to re-arrange the space in order to create a larger master bath with dual, wall-hanging vanities from IKEA. This master bath makeover also features a free-standing Maax brand air-jetted tub with deck-mounted faucet, and centered behind the tub is now a beautiful glass mosaic custom tiled wall niche extending to the ceiling (this same mosaic tile was used as backsplash above both of the vanities). Additionally, this master bath remodel features a custom tile shower with multiple shower heads and a pebble stone look on the floor.

The exterior of the MB shower was constructed with half walls and later tiled with Florida Tile (along with the bathroom floors) while frosted glass was installed on top of these walls for just the right touch of eloquence. Lastly, the new floorplan allowed the master closet to increase by roughly 30% in size. Although not pictured here, the guest bathroom was also remodeled and now includes a wall hanging vanity from IKEA, a new white Kohler tub, and large rectangular Florida Tile wall tiles on the shower walls.

Bathroom Remodeling Parma

This is a complete bathroom remodel in Parma OH. This bathroom remodeling project included custom tile installation, converting a tub into a standing shower, drywall patching, painting, and more.

Bathroom Remodeling Parma OH 44134 – General Contractors Cleveland

When it comes to smaller home remodeling projects, we at JM Design Build take just as much pride in–and enjoy them just as much–as larger scale home renovations. Therefore, today we are very excited to present you with the latest addition to our 2013 portfolio of completed projects: a small yet very cool bathroom remodel in Parma, Ohio. Completed in less than two weeks, this small bathroom makeover went from old and ugly to fresh and functional. The customer, a really great lady, initially contacted JM Design Build (along with 3 other bathroom remodelers in Cleveland) to set up a consultation with our interior designers so she could learn more about our services as well as to get an estimate on completing the work. Sadly, remodeling the upstairs bathroom was the next project on her husband’s to-do list before passing away recently. Because her husband had always taken care of things around the house, she did not have a local general contractor that she was familiar–let alone comfortable–with and was very skeptical of hiring strangers to come work on her house.

Now, we have to admit: we DID NOT have the lowest bid for her bathroom remodel. In fact, out of the 4 other estimates she received JM Design Build came in at the 2nd highest. However, we also went to great lengths to make sure she was 100% comfortable with us working on her home. This included several follow-up calls and emails, reference lists, and even a visit to our office to meet the team. We were honored to earn her business and we’re excited about how the project turned out.

While it wasn’t a huge master bath remodel or some other large remodeling project, there was still quite a bit of work to do. Small bathroom remodeling can be tricky because while there is a lot of work to be done, it is difficult to have more than 1 contractor working in it at a time. Therefore the process needs to be nailed down so the general contractor can align the right trades and otherwise get in-and-out so you can get back to “business as usual”. For those interested, we have listed the fundamental scope of work this particular bathroom remodel in Parma below. However, for those simply wishing to learn more about JM Design Build or to schedule your complimentary consultation, please click here. Enjoy!

Bathroom Remodeling Strongsville OH 44149 – Bathroom Contractors Cleveland

Today we are excited to feature a bathroom remodel in Strongsville, OH recently completed by our team of contractors in Cleveland. Normally our interior designers play an integral role in the selection process of our home remodeling projects–however, we must admit this bathroom design was almost entirely the result of ideas from the customer herself. While we definitely take pride in our unique bathroom designs, we don’t indulge in the hate-o-rade…she did an EXCELLENT job!

Strongsville Bathroom Remodeling – Products, Solutions, and Selections

This Strongsville bathroom remodel was part of a larger basement finishing project which included an awesome kitchenette, custom built entertainment center, exercise room, and more. The bathroom ended up fitting perfectly right next to the kitchenette and is easily accessible from the entertainment area as well.

While some of our Cleveland area bathroom remodeling projects include complete bathroom makeovers and even master bath additions, this one is a great example of eloquently simple. It has some really cool features such as a custom tile bench with a California Gold Mosaic Feature Strip, a custom shower glass enclosure, and a KraftMaid bathroom vanity and granite vanity countertop; but it still remains an efficiently sized, conveniently located bathroom. Here are some of the cooler products used here:

Shower Floor
The shower floor is made up of a Pebble Tile (5013) from DalTile; the same type of material you often see in and around swimming pools.

Shower Walls and Shower Bench
The shower insert is tiled with a Del Monoco Glazed Porcelain in Tatiana Noce.

Tile Floor
The tile floor is a Slate California Gold Versailles Pattern Stone Multi-surface Tile from Daltile.

Handicap Bathroom Remodeling Cleveland, OH 44147

Featured here we have a really cool bathroom remodel in Cleveland. The project consisted of installing a handicap bathroom as part of a larger in-law suite / Home Addition in Broadview Hts. The homeowners worked with our bathroom designers to come up with a really unique concept that fit their individual tastes and styles. The major components of this bathroom include the accessibility, highly detailed tile patterns, and state-of-the-art bathroom fixtures.

Handicap Bathroom Remodel Features and Benefits

There are some really cool features included in this bathroom remodeling project that are not necessarily evident to the naked eye. For instance, above the shower is an angled soffit so water would run off of it naturally, while the mosaic tile floor is pitched to the drain with precision so there is no curb which enables wheelchair access. Below is a list of our favorite features of this particular bathroom remodeling in Cleveland:

The toilet is awesome. For one, it boasts a Kohler Kelston 1.6-gallon flush Tank as well as a Comfort Height® two-piece elongated toilet, meaning it is chair height seating which makes sitting down and standing up easier for most adults. However, the really cool feature is the heated Kohler C3® 200 elongated toilet seat with bidet functionality, in-line heater and remote controls for an added touch of luxury.

This shower is truly a place to relax. Included here is a Delta Touch-Clean® Raincan Shower Head in Venetian Bronze which features a 5″ diameter spray face and shower arm, coupled with Alsons’ traditional 5-spray massage hand shower with an easy turn spray dial to ensure a massage-like experience each and every morning.

The look and feel of the bathroom is consistent. Our bathroom designers just couldn’t get used to the idea of a standard Home Depot style vanity. Rather, they turned it up a notch and went with a Rock Sink from the Tile Shop and Delta’s Addison Single Handle Centerset Faucet in Venetian Bronze with a riser for single handle operation

The tile in the shower is very unique and completely custom. It is actually a 4 slate tile pattern (6×6; 6×12; 12×12; 12×18) using Copper Rust Tumbled tile and Arinsal Oxido tile from The Tile Shop. Also featured in the shower is a handicapped bench and a pitched floor to create no curb, enabling handicap access.

Bathroom Remodeling Brecksville OH 44141 – Bathroom Addition

The slideshow above features pictures taken from a new bathroom we recently installed in Brecksville. The homeowners initially contracted us for a kitchen remodeling project, however they quickly fell in love with the idea of adding a bathroom to their lower-level because they run a business out of their basement and therefore spend quite a bit of time downstairs.

It was clear from the beginning that the customer wanted to keep things as simple as possible–it is not a master bath nor is it even a bathroom in a main area of the home, so we agreed. The goal, thus, was to install a functional bathroom with the space allotted to us. With this information in mind, we came up with a location for the new bathroom adjacent to the laundry area. This kept the plumbing relocation costs down and also fit well in terms of overall transition for their basement. Moreover, it provided ample room to install a 5′ x 8′ bathroom–the ideal size for the customer.

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas, Products, and Selections

As for the actual work completed, the most difficult part of the job was moving the plumbing and reworking the electrical to service the new bathroom, which involved cutting up the floor and running new electrical feeds. In addition, we installed an exhaust fan which needed to vent properly, so there was some HVAC work that needed to be completed. Aside from the mechanical work, the remainder of this “Bathroom Remodeling Brecksville” project was rather standard.

Again, the customer wanted value. For them, this meant purchasing a majority of their selections from standard suppliers, while trading up in certain areas to ensure a quality finished product. For instance, the corner shower kit, American Classics Hampton Oak 36″ vanity, and white vanity top we all purchased from Home Depot, while the customer upgraded to a very nice Cusco Noce floor tile from the Tile Shop.

Brecksville Bathroom Contractors – Bathroom Addition Scope of Work

The following is a very general list of the major items included in this project:

  • Construct full bath in lower-level including new framing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC to code
  • Insulate and drywall new areas
  • Install trim to match existing
  • Install new fixtures including 3ft vanity, 5ft shower, water closet, tile floor
  • All electric to be GFI’s with light/fan combination

When it comes to remodeling your bathroom, no one is better suited for the job than JM Design build, a distinguished Cleveland Contractor. The image featured above is for a recent bathroom remodel in Brooklyn, OH (44144), completely customized and developed by our bathroom remodelers. Our interior design team can take your existing space, whether there is currently a bathroom there or not, and come up with a layout tailored specifically to your needs and budget.

The homeowner that this bathroom was designed for recently purchased their first home in the Cleveland area with hopes of having a finished basement complete with a roomy, sleek, and brightly colored full-bathroom connected to the basement office to work comfortably at home. The bathroom is more for everyday use rather than for show so it was critical that we chose a layout and accompanying fixtures that would provide the right look but not bust their budget.

The previous homeowner had left the bathroom in poor condition, and although the basement was partially finished at one point, virtually everything in it was now outdated and/or no longer functional–particularly the bathroom. The plumbing was leaking and the electrical was not up to code with Ground Faulted Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s), not to mention it did not provide enough room for the new owners to use it comfortably. Thus, we re-positioned the bathroom on the opposite side of the stairway so that it is connected to the office and so we were not restricted by the ductwork, water heater, etc. that was prominent on the other side of the basement. This provided our bathroom remodelers with enough room to include a standing corner shower kit, toilet, and vanity without any limitations at all. Moreover, even with the additional costs involved with moving the plumbing, we were still able to execute the project within the homeowner’s budget.

-Framed approximately 10′ x 7′ area for new full-bathroom
-Installed and updated all electrical to service new area to code including ceiling lights, GFI outlets, exhaust fan, and new switches and outlets, vanity light
-Re-worked plumbing for a new vanity and sink, stand-up shower, and water closet to code
-Built soffits around existing ductwork and kept all existing air supply/vent openings
-Drywalled all walls and ceiling
-Mud, sanded, taped, and prime all new drywall
-Painted all new walls with one coat and one color (owner’s choice)
-Installed new base trim
-Installed new door and hardware
-Installed vanity and granite counter-top
-Install ceramic tile on the bathroom floor
