The Trend Towards Two-Toned Cabinets
This week we are finishing up a kitchen remodel in Shaker Heights, OH, on Cleveland’s east side. While there are many cool elements to this project, the one that stands out the most is the use of two different color cabinets–one light and one dark–in the kitchen. The island cabinets, as well as the refrigerator surround and the upper corner cabinet are chestnut, while the rest of the kitchen is a cream color.
We have done several kitchens with two-toned cabinets in the past 12 months and have noticed that it is growing trend. Therefore we would like to advise our readers who might be considering two-tone cabinets for their new Cleveland kitchen remodeling project to take careful consideration of their granite choice. The granite selection is very important when trying to pull this style of kitchen off, because it needs to tie the two colors together. In addition to making sure the granite syncs well with cabinets, we also need to think about installing a tile back-splash and tile floor.
Depending on how detailed these are, the danger becomes having a kitchen that looks too busy, where too many colors are fighting against one another. It’s important to find the balance of showing a lot of variety while remaining in the same color families.
