Tile Trends – Contractors and Bathroom Remodeling Cleveland, OH Area

Recently here at JM Design Build (fyi…we’re Interior Designers and General Contractors in Cleveland), our interior designers have been seeing a growing trend with customers choosing to tile all the way up their walls. We’re not talking about just shower walls here; I’m talking about entire bathroom walls and even kitchens.

In particular, a noticeable number of recent bathroom remodeling customers have elected to add some versatility to the standard look behind their bathroom vanity–where instead of a 4” backsplash they choose to tile the entire wall behind the vanity. However, other options exist as well. For instance, rather than wainscoting 3 feet up the wall, our designers have been proposing that our customer’s allow our bathroom remodeling contractors to tile the entire way up their bathroom–on all perimeter walls–and more and more they are falling in love with the idea. In fact, we have also seen people get really crazy and tile all the way up the walls and the ceiling in their new bathroom renovation, literally covering every square inch of the room with decorative tile.

In the kitchen, we are finding a shift in the trend where, for the last 10 years or so, homeowners would install a tile backsplash in the space between the countertop and the upper cabinets. Lately, however, we are seeing an interest in having our tile contractors install tile all the way up one wall–essentially creating a similar feel created by painting one wall a different color, or a feature wall. Another (more scaled back) option, of course, is that if your kitchen has a range hood, you can tile your back splash as usual, but extend the tile all the way to the ceiling surrounding the range hood.

These are just some of the tile trends we have noticed lately. The bottom line is that today, the more tile the better.
