WHY LIVE TINY?
Since the episode of Tiny House Nation aired on the FYI Network a few weeks ago, which showcased the Tiny House that we built for a couple in Cleveland, OH, I found myself asking the same question over and over again: what would it take to “go Tiny”? The concept behind the current Tiny house movement is all about simplicity; but for something that is supposed to be so ‘simple’ it seems rather complicated to grasp. Where do you even start? How do you choose which of your treasured belongings to keep? Do you really need 10 pairs of jeans (probably not!)? Going Tiny means back to the basics–something I find very challenging yet just as intriguing.
“WHY?! WHAT’S THE POINT?”
If you look at the big picture it really does make a lot of sense to Go Tiny. We just make it harder than it has to be. So, what are the benefits of going tiny?
- You have no Mortgage
- Your bills/utilities are a fraction of a conventional home
- If you decide you would like a change of scenery, you simply drive to your next destination. Never move again!
- Lastly, living in a small home provides a fantastic opportunity to increase intimacy between you and your loved one–just think how much better your relationships would be without so many distractions.
I am not saying going tiny is for everyone. In fact there are a lot of you that it just simply doesn’t make sense for. However, for the rest of us, we really don’t need much to live comfortably. I know–it’s not an easy concept to run with and there are plenty of valid reasons to second-guess the idea of downsizing–but this stress free way of living has become my new personal quest. And I would love it if others took the plunge with me. Think Big, Go Tiny!
