BEFORE & AFTER PICS General Contractors in Cleveland, OH - Kitchen Remodeling in Parma The best part of being in the home remodeling business is the sheer excitement in a customer's voice when the project is coming to an end. Perhaps second, then, is taking a look back on what things were like before it all started. A few months ago, we met with a happily married couple who were interested in remodeling their kitchen in Parma, OH (44129). Having become fed up with the layout and all of its inefficiencies, the couple needed ideas from expert designers on how they could turn their outdated room into the gorgeous, contemporary, and space-effective kitchen of their dreams--all within their budget. After a brief consultation on a Sunday afternoon, our team was able to gather all the information we needed and began working on a brand new layout. And, in less than a week from the initial consultation, we were already helping them make their new kitchen cabinet selections at Babin Kitchen and Bath in Broadview Heights, OH. As you can see from the before pictures above, we had our work cut out for us. To begin, we removed all of the existing cabinets, flooring, and partial walls by the refrigerator and end of sink. Removing these walls was a critical component in our floor-plan design as it would effectively open up the area, enabling us to re-position the appliances and create better utilization of space. For instance, because they wanted a place to drink their coffee yet do not typically eat meals in the kitchen, we were able to install a granite breakfast bar with proper supports around the bay window. Then, to make sure the kitchen was properly lit, we installed 4 new recess lights, 1 new ceiling fixture, and 2 pendent lights over the breakfast bar areas. As well, we updated the electrical with 4 new ground-faulted outlets. Updating the electric was critical as it enabled us to move the range to the opposite corner of the kitchen (across from the breakfast bar), and to place the refrigerator next to it--all while installing new custom cabinets for additional storage space. Now, instead of having each individual appliance scattered throughout the kitchen, the refrigerator, microwave and stove are all next to each other for more efficiency and better utilization of space. In addition to the demolition and re-organization, we also installed brand new cabinets, re-finished the walls with drywall, installed a #3 granite on all counter-tops, a laminated floating floor in the kitchen, hallway, and back stairs, re-finished all the trim work, and installed all hardware on the new cabinets! The end result is a stunning--and most importantly, efficient--kitchen that the homeowners are ecstatic about. Sunroom Additions in Cleveland, Ohio - JM Design Build BlogJM Design Build is a general contractor in Cleveland specializing in kitchen and bathroom remodeling, basement finishing and home additions--including sun rooms. Below is a quick post about a sun room we recently built in Twinsburg, OH. Tell us that you think! Recently, JM Design Build built a gorgeous sunroom in Twinsburg, OH (pictured above). The homeowners were looking to add additional space to their home while also making sure the look and feel of the room matched the existing house. With the help of our designers and expert carpenters, the Twinsburg family not only added significant value and living space to their home, but we were also able to add a concrete patio, skylights, and sliding patio doors while not exceeding their given budget. While a sunroom can indeed add a touch of luxury to your living quarters, many people don't realize sunrooms are often a cost effective way to add value and increase the usable space and square footage of your home. What's more, sunrooms can also be of significant value in terms of energy savings and energy efficient usable space, particularly when compared to a typical home addition. Sunrooms built by JM Design Build, a general contractor in Cleveland Ohio, will almost always reduce energy costs because they are built specifically to capture sunlight, thereby adding natural warmth to the room while also saving on energy that would otherwise be obtained through electricity. In addition, sun-rooms can come with custom insulation and ventilation systems that allow them to be comfortable all year long--even in Cleveland's harsh weather conditions--therefore increasing their usefulness and overall market appeal. Lastly, there are a number of benefits of a sunroom addition that are not necessarily confined to dollars and cents. For instance, there is a certain peace of mind that comes from a well-built sunroom addition. It is hard to put a dollar amount on being able to relax after a long day in a naturally lit, well ventilated sunroom with the family or in complete solitude. And, if that weren't enough, there are a number of recent studies that attribute a variety of health benefits to natural sunlight. For example, a recent study conducted at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Nebraska found that supplementing with vitamin D and calcium can reduce your risk of cancer by at least 60 percent. So, while there are indeed plenty of financial benefits one can reap by adding on a sunroom to their home, there are also plenty that cannot be quantified. Looking for a general contractor in Cleveland to build a sunroom addition on your home? JM Design Build, a general contractor in Cleveland, OH, has long been known for its elite design team, consisting of some of the best residential designers and renovation contractors in Cleveland. However, there comes a time when, despite a rich history and great reputation, businesses need to re-invent themselves. Or, at the very least, find ways to stand out from the crowd. We've all seen it happen: companies that at one time were at the forefront of their industry become outdated and irrelevant. Businesses and economic climates change, consumers demand more, and markets become hyper-competitive. The challenge, then, becomes finding new ways to adapt and innovate. Doing so correctly can differentiate a brand from its competitors and, ultimately, help nurture a strong identity. These fundamental principles apply to every industry, market, and business sector across the board. And JM Design Build is no different. Realizing this truth, we recently decided to further our reputation as a premier design and build company by investing in a group of young, extremely talented interior designers to take our design services to the next level. This acquisition, among other things, helps separate us from the crowd yet again and effectively establishes us an innovator in our industry. Not only are 3D designs aesthetically pleasing, but they also allow homeowners to visualize their investment. Moreover, as your remodeling project progresses, updates can be made in real time based on your material selections so that you can actually see your project come to life. Beginning today, JM Design Build is offering a full menu of new services--3D designs being one of them. JM Design Build, a distinguished General Contractor in Cleveland, OH helps one Broadview Hts homeowner update her outdated bathroom with a modern, financially savvy bathroom remodel investment. WHY YOU DESERVE A NEW BATHROOM Every homeowner deserves an exceptional bathroom. Why, you ask? Because the average American spends about 30 minutes in their bathroom every day, with one in for spending more than an hour, according to a poll conducted by American Standard on US consumers. However, when it comes to why exactly you're bathroom isn't the space you deserve, it is a much more personal matter. For instance, some homeowners deserve a bathroom that caters to their physical limitations and/or safety preferences, while others just don't have enough space in their existing room. Or, as in the case of one of our recent customers, your bathroom is simply outdated. Let's face it, the bathroom that worked for you when you first moved in years ago just doesn't cut it anymore. Appliances and fixtures get rusty, materials and color schemes grow tacky, and the vanity can no longer handle all of your stuff. Of course, bathroom remodeling is an investment--but that doesn't necessarily mean it's risky. In fact, a bathroom remodel has one of the highest returns of most any other home remodeling project, not to mention it is a huge selling factor for potential buyers down the road. Plus, when you add in the peace of mind you receive from enhancing your lifestyle with a modern bathroom design, it really becomes an easy decision. For Joyce, a recent JM Design Build customer in Broadview Heights, OH (just south of Cleveland), the decision to invest in a bathroom remodel turned out to be a pretty savvy move. At first, she wanted to get an idea for the costs involved, so we set up a time to meet with one of our experts for a free bathroom design consultation. Once we understood her needs, we presented her with a design that ended up being exactly what she was looking for, so she chose to hire us as her bathroom remodeler. OUR BATHROOM REMODELING PROCESS To begin the process, we demo'd the entire existing bathroom and removed all materials including drywall and flooring. Then, we updated the electric with modern supplies in order to more efficiently service her new space. After the new tub was set, we installed fresh drywall, durarock and layed new tile on the floor and on the perimeter of the shower. Then, our remodeling crew hooked up the new toilet, set the vanity cabinets and granite counter top, primed and painted the drywall, hung the towel racks and installed the light fixtures. (see Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about our process). In less than 3 weeks, Joyce had a brand new bathroom and a great place to spend her time. Needless to say, she's very happy with her investment. As a seasoned remodeling company in Brecksville, just south of Cleveland, it is no surprise that our phones have been ringing off the hook with homeowners in a panic as they have just discovered water damage inside their home. Let's face it, Cleveland has some very harsh weather--even during what is supposed to be "spring". A majority of the calls we get are concerning water leaking through a window, particularly larger bay windows on the front of the home. While occasionally the window simply needs to be re-caulked or re-flashed, an overwhelming majority of the time water is finding it's way into the house from somewhere other than the window itself. For instance, very recently, JM Design Build met with a Broadview Heights homeowner in a very similar situation as described above and found that the water had actually been coming in from the roof of the house. While the water was first spotted from the inside of the home, it unfortunately had been seeping through for quite some time prior to anyone noticing it. Thus, quite a bit of damage had been done, and we advised the homeowners to contact their insurance company. Below is an overview of the procedures taken collaboratively by JM and the homeowners to resolve the water damage issue and restore the home back to its original state. Restoring a Home After Water Damage JM Design Build visually inspected the area and found damages to the bay window on the front of their home. The homeowner informed us that this was the first time he and his wife had noticed any water coming through the home; however it was evident that the water had been seeping through for quite some time. After an exterior assessment of the home, it is believed that heat loss from the garage area was causing ice to build in the corner of the garage and the exterior wall, which hangs over the bay window. Thus, as the ice melted, water was seeping through the bay area and entering the home. After finalizing the course of action with the homeowner’s insurance company, JM Design Build began restoring the home to its original state through a series of both exterior and interior renovations. For instance, on the exterior, JM's expert construction crew removed shingles and tar paper, approximately 150 square feet of stucco, installed ice and water shield, and replaced all materials that were removed and painted them to match the existing look and feel of the home. In addition, JM Design Build installed electric heat cables in the gutter and roof area to help prevent ice dams from occurring in the future. In regards to the interior renovations, JM Design Build removed the damaged trim and drywall in the dining room bay as well as the insulation and inspected the framing and floor areas for rotted lumber. Once all of the material damaged by water was removed, we sprayed the entire area with TIMBOR® mold inhibitor. The homeowner also needed new windows as they were damaged so we replaced them with 4, double hung windows with grid patterns that matched the other windows in the home. We then replaced all drywall, trim and insulation. The home was restored and looks almost identical to its original state. If you're wondering how to prevent and remove ice dams, we have a helpful blog post here. Otherwise, if you have noticed water damage in your home, contact us for a free inspection and we'll help you figure out how to get your home back to the way it is supposed to be. JM Design Build, a trusted, award-winning general contractor in Cleveland, OH recently built a deck for a family in Solon that not only exceeded their wants, but met their "special" needs. Spring is a great time for making improvements to your home, and a highly desired project for many homeowners' in Cleveland this year is building a new deck, a stamped concrete patio, or simply updating an existing structure. While decks can be somewhat costly, the benefits of building a deck can be very rewarding. For one, a deck essentially become an extension of your home--adding not only usable space and square footage but also the perfect atmosphere for relaxing, grilling out with friends, and soaking up the summer sun. What's more, for those of you worried about the market value of your home, a beautiful deck is a huge selling feature for potential buyers. Recently, JM Design Build, a general contractor and deck builder in Cleveland Ohio, helped a family in Solon, OH build the deck of their dreams. The couple had been living in the house for years and, when they realized they weren't going anywhere for a while, they decided to invest their money into something that made not only economical sense but was also emotionally rewarding. The couple, excited to get the process started, met with our professional design team so we could get a feel for their needs. While it is true that most people have a good idea of the improvements they would like to make to their home, we are able to provide either better, more economical, or more efficient solutions to almost 90% of the homeowners we meet with. Such is the case with this family in Solon Ohio; they had a strong idea of how they wanted to use their deck, yet we were able to far surpass their expectations. For instance, the couple needed a big deck because they are always entertaining friends and family, hosting parties, and cooking out with neighbors. However, their main concern was building a handicap accessible deck so that their son could also take part in these cherished gatherings. Thus, JM Design Build crafted a plan, complete with professional drawings, that not only met but exceeded the family's financial, social, and, perhaps most importantly, physical needs. Impressed with the drawings and initial consultations, they decided to invest in a deck by JM Design Build, one of the most trusted general contractors in Cleveland for over 30 years. As you can see from the pictures, the homeowners in Solon, OH made a great choice. Once limited by indoor living space, the family now enjoys a 700 square foot deck off the rear of their home, strategically shaped around the mulch beds and gardening in the back of their home. Additionally, the deck includes a unique, red feature strip of decking that splits the deck into two asymmetrical sections, as well as a matching red belt line around the perimeter of the deck's structure. To accommodate the couple's handicapped son, JM Design Build built a ramp for easy, safe access. Moreover, the deck was deliberately built on an even plane with the exit door to his room so that he could go outside and even into the back yard at his own leisure. Needless to say, this Solon, OH family is excited for summer. They now have a gorgeous, accessible, and spacious place to escape--right in their own backyard.
